# Your avatar

> Your likeness on screen, made from one photograph — how to take a good one, and what you can do with the result.

takes a couple of minutes.

## Making one

Press **Add**, then either upload a photograph or take one with your webcam in the browser. You crop
it, and the system does the rest.

### What makes a good photograph

This is the whole difference between an avatar you are happy with and one you are not.

* **Face the camera**, roughly square on, with your head and shoulders in frame.
* **Even, soft light on your face.** A window in front of you is ideal. Avoid a bright window behind
  you, and avoid harsh overhead light.
* **A plain, uncluttered background.** It will be removed, and a simple one removes cleanly.
* **A neutral, pleasant expression**, mouth closed.
* **Wear what you would wear to meet the customer.**
* **Sharp and reasonably large.** A cropped group photo will look like a cropped group photo.

Take three and pick the best. It costs you a minute and you will look at the result for months.

## What you get back

Your avatar is prepared in a few versions, and you can look through them:

* **Original** — your photograph as supplied.
* **Transparent** — you, with the background removed, which is what is placed over scene backgrounds.
* **Coloured background** — the same, on a solid colour.
* **A short preview video**, so you can see how you move before committing.

If a version looks wrong, regenerate it from the viewer rather than starting over.

## Choosing which avatar is used

You can have more than one: a formal one and a relaxed one, or a fresh one after a haircut. One is
marked **preferred**, and that is the one offered by default when you are cast.

You can set the preferred avatar from the list or from inside the version viewer.

## Variants

From an avatar you can generate **variants**: alternatives in a different setting or framing, built
from the same likeness. Keep the ones you like and they sit alongside your original as choices.

  **Nothing here is published anywhere.** Your avatar lives in your account and is used only in videos
  you have consented to present. Your colleague preparing the campaign cannot see or change it.
